Borneo is an explorer’s dream, and if you love nature, adventure and jungles, this is the place that should be on your bucket list. It’s a real wild romance, and I can guarantee you will fall in love with Borneo instantly.
If you look to travel there in August – among all South East Asian countries this one has pretty good weather conditions during that time.
What’s there to see?
You can fill your itinerary with lots of activities and explore Borneo’s uniqueness. It offers spectacular river cruising with crocodiles and snakes, strolls in the world’s most famous jungle, opportunity to see orangutans in the wildlife, diving escapades near Sipadan, relaxing tropical romance ala Bora Bora style in Gaya Island…and so much more!

Island to Island Zipline activity
Kota Kinabalu offers Coral Flyer Zipline , the longest island-to-island flying-fox activity in Sabah and Borneo. Coral Flyer Zipline between islands is strung up between Gaya Island and Sapi Island in the TAR Park.
It allows blazing speeds of up to 65 km/h, letting you zoom from Gaya Island where it starts, down to Sapi Island where it ends in perfect safety, thanks to high-tech break technology.

Gaya Island – Bora Bora style romance.
Why go to Bora Bora when you can visit Gaya Island ( 15 min by boat from Kota Kinabalu) secluded luxury island.
Discover a sanctuary nestled in the hillside of an ancient rainforest with a stunning outline of Mount Kinabalu on the horizon.
I found this gem and decided to head there for three nights, and it exceeded my expectations.
Gaya Island Resort Marine Centre is located only 15 minutes by speed boat ( boat arranged from the resort) from Kota Kinabalu (Sabah).
If you wish to experience a total honeymoon escape, this is a perfect place to visit.
The resort offers a broad range of activities: sunset cruise, snorkelling, scuba diving, stand-up paddle-boarding, canoeing, etc.
There is an excellent Spa place where you can unwind and pamper yourself for hours.
Next, to Gaya Island Resort there is another resort called Gayana Resort, however, I recommend to stay at Gaya.

Rainforest and wildlife
The Borneo rainforest has an estimated age of 130 million years, making in the oldest rainforest in the world.
Once you relaxed at Gaya Island, you can catch a local plane to explore jungles of Sabah, only a 45 minutes flight Kota Kinabalu – Sandakan.
Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilation Centre – located around 30 min out of Sandakan is worlds most famous place to see orangutans in their natural habitat.
Where to stay?
There are certainly a lof of options to stay in beautiful eco-lodges, but if you don’t want to spend a fortune and still enjoy beautiful rainforest lush landscape book your accommodation at Sepilok Forest Edge Resort ( see pictures above). From there you will be able to book river cruises and other attractions.
How to get to Borneo?
Fly to Kula Lumpur and from there catch a plane to Kota Kinabalu.
